ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has released a few more details — including the victim’s name — in an early morning homicide.

Casey Patrick Boone has been charged in the death of 39-year-old Jimmy Ray Locklear Jr.

The sheriff’s office says two were roommates and that the shooting occurred at a home on Central Avenue in East Rockingham early Wednesday morning.

“As the investigation remains in its early stages, further information will be released as it becomes available,” reads a recent post on the RCSO Facebook page.

Locklear’s name was withheld in the initial report from the RCSO, pending notification of his family.

Boone, 68, has been charged with an open count of murder and was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 12:08 p.m., records show. He is being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 19.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
