ROCKINGHAM — Ending her season on a high note, a member of the Richmond Senior High School girls’ golf team makes her second appearance in The Richmond Observer’s weekly feature series this fall.

Talley Webb, a freshman who attends Richmond County Ninth Grade Academy, has been named the Official Richmond County Female Student-Athlete of the Week presented by Rockingham NC Self Storage.

Putting an exclamation point on her freshman season, Webb qualified for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 4A Central regional tournament and also made the All-Sandhills Athletic Conference team.

Earning her second career selection, Webb is the only Richmond student-athlete to earn it twice during the current fall sports season.

With the end of the first nine-week period officially in the books, Webb made the A/B honor roll to start her high school academic career.

Taking three classes at the Ninth Grade Academy, and one more at Richmond, Webb had two As and two Bs.

She earned As in Weight Training Honors and World History Honors, and scored Bs in English I Honors and Foundations of Health Science.

The second nine weeks started Tuesday and Webb said she will continue to put in time on her school work.

In the spring, she’ll take four additional honors courses — Earth and Environmental Science, Math 2, Microsoft Word and PowerPoint and Weight Training.

“AT REGIONALS”  WITH TALLEY WEBB

In the closing week of her freshman season, Webb reached two milestones that the Lady Raider golf program hasn’t done in the past five or six years.

First, Webb qualified and competed in the 4A Central regional tournament. She ended a program drought that had lasted since the 2019 season, when former player Hailey Miller made it as a senior.

Following in Miller’s footsteps, Webb also made the All-SAC golf team, the first Lady Raider to do so since Miller in 2018. Webb averaged a score of 46.6 on her best nine-hole rounds and finished as the 12th-best individual golfer in the conference.

At regionals, Webb finished tied for 68th place with Zella Ann Cook of Mount Tabor High School. She shot a final score of 102, posting a 48 on the front nine and a 52 after the turn.

Webb parred a pair of par-three holes, Nos. 3 and 6, while also saving bogey on five holes.

With the season over, Webb said her goal during her sophomore campaign is to qualify for the NCHSAA 4A state championship tournament.
