CAMERON — It was also a successful outing for the Richmond Senior High School boys’ indoor track and field team Saturday.

Like their Lady Raider teammates, the Raiders picked up a trio of wins and finished the Viking Polar Bear Invitational, hosted by Union Pines High School, with nine top-five finishes.

Competing outdoors for the second consecutive weekend in Moore County, the Raiders used the meet to try and qualify for the postseason, as well as get ready for the upcoming Mid-South Conference championship.

Each of Richmond’s three wins were recorded by different student-athletes – seniors Keonta Pegues and Domonic Tillman, along with junior Elijah Ingram.

Pegues repeated as the winner in the 55-meter dash, having also won the event last weekend at Pinecrest High School. His time Saturday was 6.60 seconds.

Tillman, who also plays basketball, made his season debut and won the triple jump with a distance of 44 feet, 0 inches. Reaching the podium for the first time this season as well, Ingram took home the top spot in the shot put (42 feet, 7 inches).

The team’s only second-place finisher was senior Tyrese Collins, who was just behind Tillman in the triple jump. His best effort landed at 42 feet, 1 inch.

Sophomore Ty Covington ran the 55-meter hurdles in 8.79 seconds, which resulted in the Raiders’ only third-place time of the meet.

Two of Richmond’s three fourth-place finishers did so in field events. Tillman was fourth in the long jump (20 feet, 5 inches) and junior Jeremiah Covington stayed on the podium in the shot put for the second straight weekend with a final throw of 38 feet, 8 inches.

The other fourth-place event was the 4x200-meter relay, which saw the four Raiders make the two trips around the track in 1:35.99.

Sophomore Ziyair Ingram rounded out the Raiders’ top performances with a fifth-place time of 9.25 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles.

Up next for the Raiders is the Mid-South Conference championship meet Friday. It will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem and begin at 4:30 p.m.
