ROCKINGHAM — A strong sophomore season for Talley Webb led to another postseason accolade earlier this month.

Continuing to make her mark as Richmond Senior High School’s top female golfer, Webb earned a spot on the All-Mid-South Conference team.

Making the select group of golfers for the second straight season, Webb finished the campaign as the MSC’s seventh-best golfer.

Last season, Webb broke a six-year program drought when she made the All-Conference squad. She became the first Lady Raider golfer to qualify for the team since former golfer Hailey Miller did so in 2018.

“I’m very proud of Talley,” first-year head coach Kevin Wallace said. “I knew when I became the coach that she would be our top golfer and she really lived up to that this season. She battled through a foot injury, but was still able to be amongst the best golfers in the conference.

“What Talley does for our program is not only put up good scores, but she’s a great teammate,” he added. “She’s the leader of our team and is always helping the other girls. She is very deserving of making All-Conference.”

Unlike other All-Conference teams, where coaches nominate players based on not just season statistics, the girls’ golf team used each golfer’s average nine-hole score. Only 10 golfers are selected for the postseason roster.

This season, Webb’s nine-hole average was 48.1, placing her seventh among the conference’s top 10 golfers. Compared to her freshman season average of 46.6, Webb’s average went up 1.5 strokes, but tougher competition and more challenging courses were added to the new conference after realignment.

Finishing as the MSC’s top average leader and named “Golfer of the Year” was Pinecrest High School’s London Fitzgerald. She averaged 37.1 strokes per nine holes. Pinecrest’s Jamie Williams was named “Coach of the Year.”

Other golfers to make the All-MSC team ahead of Webb, in order by lowest average were Pinecrest’s Ira Joshi (37.3) and Ashley Lee (37.5), Alexis Paquin (Pine Forest, 40.1), Charlotte Schroen (Pinecrest, 40.6) and Addison Bidoli (Jack Britt, 47.1).

The three other golfers to qualify behind Webb were Julianna Wright (Jack Britt, 54.1), Savannah Bauer (Jack Britt, 57.8) and Mikayla Adams (Overhills, 58.8).

“Making All-Conference for the second year in a row means a lot to me,” Webb shared. “It shows that my hard work and dedication are paying off. I think my consistency throughout the season really helped, along with focusing on improving my skills every match.

“To keep setting the bar higher, I plan to focus on refining my technique and building strength during the offseason,” she added. “I'm planning on participating in a few tournaments and keeping up with regular practice sessions to stay sharp.”

Webb helped lead the Lady Raiders to a third-place finish in the MSC standings this year with 18.5 points.

She also returned to the postseason for the second time in her career and ended her season tied for 34th place at the 7A West regional championship.

“I’m satisfied with how my season went,” Webb closed. “But I want to continue to get better and qualify for the state tournament next year. That’s the big goal for me.”
