Bryson Dechambeau is a United States Open champion yet again.

Dechambeau bested Rory McIlroy, trading punches all afternoon long in pursuit of his second major title.

The drama came in buckets as both Dechambeau and McIlroy switched leads several times on the back nine — McIlroy at one moment getting a 2-up lead.

As the intensity increased down the stretch, McIlroy’s putter failed him, putting several holes coming down the stretch.

As McIlroy faded, Dechambeau showed out — making several clutch up and downs and big pressure putts, including a 50-yard bunker shot on the 18th hole which he needed for the win.

Dechambeau coolly stepped into the bunker and blasted the difficult long-range shot up to several feet, which he subsequently holed to win the championship.

Dechambeau showed true class, calming the crowd for his playing partner Matthew Pavon to finish out.

Now a two-time U.S. Open Champion, previously taking the title in 2020, Dechambeau accepted his trophy in true American style — walking around the gallery on 18, meeting fans and letting them touch the trophy.

Dechambeau has certainly increased his stock with fans with recent positive interactions and the intensity with which he plays.

Sure he hits the ball a mile and has a flourishing social media presence, but it’s the little things with fans that people have picked up on. He is so well welcomed into the Pinehurst history books and will be a loved champion for years to come.
