BREAKING NEWS: Two Pronounced Dead in Fatal Accident on US Highway 1 Monday Morning

RICHMOND COUNTY – First responders from both North Carolina and South Carolina were dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle accident at 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.

The accident, which involved a tractor trailer and a small white sedan, occurred on US Highway 1 South near the state line. Upon arrival, responders discovered that the tractor trailer had flipped on its side and the sedan had been separated.

Both occupants of the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by ambulance with non life threatening injuries to a local hospital.

The southbound side of Highway 1 is expected to be closed for most of Monday morning.

Several units responded to the scene, including: Cordova Fire Rescue, Wallace (South Carolina) Rescue, FirstHealth Richmond EMS, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident was still being investigated at time of this printing by the N.C. Highway Patrol.
