Rockingham baseball opens season with win over Ellerbe

ELLERBE — The Rockingham Middle School baseball team opened its season with a win over in-county opponent Ellerbe Middle School on Monday.

Playing on the road, the Rockets defeated the Wildcats 14-2 in five innings. 

On the mound for the Rockets and earning the win was Caden Nolan, who threw three innings of work. He also collected seven strikeouts in the win.

Adan King pitched the final two innings for Rockingham and added three Ks. 

Leading hitters for Rockingham were Jason Gainey (3-4 with 2 RBIs), Tyler McKenzie (2-3 with 3 RBIs), Nolan (1-1 with 1 RBI), Carter Visingard (1-3), Graham Odom (1-2), and King added an RBI on a ground out.

The Rockets (1-0) will return to the field next Monday at home against West Hoke Middle School.
