“ALONG THE BACK ROW” WITH ALLIE RODGERS
The Richmond volleyball team started its new campaign with three non-conference matches last week, going 1-2. Earning a win against Purnell Swett, the Lady Raiders came up just short to Montgomery Central and Uwharrie Charter Academy.
Rodgers is in her second season starting as the team’s libero, playing an integral part in Richmond’s defense.
During the team’s opening match, a 3-0 loss to Montgomery Central, Rodgers collected an impressive 30 digs in the three sets.
Also against the Lady Timberwolves, she added a team-high three aces from the serving line.
Richmond entered the win column a night later against Purnell Swett, a 3-1 victory. Rodgers again helped set up the offense by matching Ava Edmondson with a team-high 13 digs.
Another close match to end the week resulted in a 3-1 loss to Uwharrie Charter.
The three sets Richmond lost were all within five points and head coach Ashleigh Larsen pointed to Rodgers’ efforts on the back row as a big reason the Lady Raiders remained competitive.
Richmond (2-2) will host Uwharrie Charter on Tuesday and also welcome in Montgomery Central on Thursday.
