OBITUARY: Martha Black Chavis

ROCKINGHAM — Martha “CeeCee” Black Chavis, 64, of Rockingham, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Jan. 16, 2023 at her residence.

She was born in Halifax, Virginia, Nov. 1, 1958, daughter of the late James Roland Black Jr. and Charlotte Mae Lawson Black.

CeeCee worked in textiles prior to being disabled. She loved to read and cook. Being one of the oldest siblings of nine, she mothered the younger siblings and was a loving sister. She loved children, and especially her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Charlotte Black.

CeeCee is survived by her sons, Jimmy Edward Chavis and Roland Eugene Chavis, both of Rockingham, and Christopher Chavis of Wilmington; brothers, James Black (Cheryl) of Rockingham, Bobby Black (Mary Lou) of Wadesboro, Thomas Black of Cherry Grove, South Carolina, and James Earl Black of Hamlet; sisters, Betty Ellerbee of Cordova, Annie Lammonds of Rockingham, Debora Black of Cherry Grove, South Carolina, Billie Jo Jarrell (Otis) of Rockingham, Jean Cain (Scotty) of Cheraw, and Debora Bond (James) of Ellerbe; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Harrington Funeral Home & Crematory is serving the Chavis family.
