Hamlet Police charge man in stabbing

HAMLET — A man is facing an assault charge following an alleged weekend stabbing.

Officers were dispatched to a home on Seaboard Street just before 6:30 Saturday morning in reference to someone with a traumatic injury, according to the Hamlet Police Department.

The responding officers reportedly saw a woman sitting on the front porch holding a towel to her side.

The victim reportedly told officers that she was gathering clothes to wash when the defendant, 25-year-old Jordan Maurice Tillman, was standing behind her holding a knife.

Tillman allegedly “poked” the victim with the knife. The two had allegedly been arguing earlier.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Tillman was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 8:01 a.m. on a single charge of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He is being held on a $75,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court July 13.

Online court records show a Jordan Tillman with the same birth date is facing the following felony charges in Cumberland County: breaking and entering; larceny after breaking and entering; conspiracy; and possession of stolen goods or property.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction appear to show Tillman has no prior convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
