Richmond County man accused of purloining power pole

ROCKINGHAM — Charges have been filed against a man accused of stealing a pole.

According to a March 8 post on the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, a report was filed Saturday, March 2 regarding a power pole and panel box that had been stolen from a location on Galestown Road.

Investigators say the pole was found at a home in Hamlet and returned to the owner.

Dustin Phillip Abrams, 32, of Rockingham, was arrested in the case March 4 and charged with: felony larceny; obtaining property by false pretenses; and injury to real property.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $12,500 secured bond and appears to have since been released. He is scheduled to appear in court March 28.

Online court records show Abrams has the following pending misdemeanor charges in Moore County: possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana; simple possession of a Schedule II controlled substance; simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance; possession of drug paraphernalia; and driving with a revoked license.

Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Abrams was convicted in 2022 on a misdemeanor count of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
