Rockingham man sought in Wadesboro shooting

WADESBORO — A Richmond County man currently on parole is wanted in connection to a shooting on the other side of the Pee Dee River.

The Wadesboro Police Department announced on its Facebook page the evening of Jan. 2 that arrest warrants have been obtained for 22-year-old Devell Exodus Tyson, of Rockingham.

Tyson is accused of being involved in a Dec. 20 shooting on White Store Road in Wadesboro that resulted in two people being injured.

Police say both victims are expected to recover from their injuries.

Investigators have charged Tyson with discharging a firearm into an occupied property and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Anyone with information on Tyson’s whereabouts is encouraged to call 911, or the department at 704-694-2167.

Tyson was released from prison on Aug. 22, 2023 after serving 17 months on a Union County conviction for possession of a firearm by a felon, according to records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction.

In 2021, Tyson was convicted of felony larceny, three counts of breaking and entering vehicles, and fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, records show.

His probation on the fleeing charge, larceny charge and one of the B&E charges was revoked in 2022.

Tyson’s parole was scheduled to end May 18, 2024.

Online court records appear to show Tyson has no current pending charges.
