Ellerbe Middle School Junior Beta brings home top accolades

The Ellerbe Middle School Beta Club returned to the North Carolina Junior Beta Convention this year to continue a long-standing tradition of showcasing EMS students’ numerous gifts and talents in both academic and visual arts competitions. This year’s Junior Beta Convention was held in Greensboro at the Koury Convention Center Jan. 28-30.

The EMS Junior Betas participating in the state convention enjoyed great success, with sixth-grader Ford Applewhite placing fifth in the state in the Recyclable Art Category.

“It was heartwarming to see how excited the students and parents were during the convention and how they supported, not only one another, but also Betas from other schools across the state,” says Laura Greene, EMS lead Beta advisor.

Applewhite earned a plaque as a congratulation for his placement and is now eligible to compete at the National Beta Convention this summer in Savannah, Georgia.

“We’re very proud of our students and grateful for all who put in an extensive amount of time and effort to achieve these accolades,” remarked Greene.

The Ellerbe Middle Junior Beta Club helps set a solid foundation for young people as they learn how to navigate the world around them, serving in their school, in their local communities, and beyond. Through various service projects, competitions, and more, students strive to uphold the four pillars of Beta: achievement, character, service, and leadership.

With more than 500,000 active members and 8,750 clubs nationally and internationally, National Beta has become the nation’s largest independent, non-profit, educational youth organization. National Beta promotes the ideals of academic achievement, character, service and leadership among elementary and secondary school students. National Junior Beta includes grades 4-8 and National Senior Beta includes grades 9-12. Visit betaclub.org for more information.
