ROCKINGHAM — Senior, Kyle Goodwin will soon be traveling to Boston, Massachusetts with 60 other students to compete for a $12,000 scholarship awarded by the Moose Youth Awareness Program.
Each year, local Moose Lodge representatives ask high school officials to recommend students based on academics and leadership. To be considered for this opportunity, Goodwin gave a Moose KidsTalk presentation to children, ages 4-9 based on healthy habits and nutrition. He spoke to students at Little Kingdom Daycare, Kids Academy Daycare, and Temple Christian Elementary School.
During his visits, he talked about the importance of CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver and even demonstrated these techniques. After each visit, Goodwin was also asked to complete a written report on his presentation.
The 2018 International Youth Awareness Congress will be held in Boston in mid April where the top 5 recipients will receive scholarships ranging from $2,000 to the top prize of $12,000.
