ROCKINGHAM – There is a time in most all of our lives when we come to a crossroads and have to make hard decisions; decisions that could make or break us. Situations and circumstances cause us to move out of our comfort zones and step into the unknown. If we stay in these zones we will most likely be left empty and stagnant unless we choose to move forward.

It was the first of the year when I was faced with one of these hard decisions. I chose to move forward which meant I had to actually make a move I’ve never made before. I won’t get into all the details but I will say it was through many years of prayer that the opportunity finally faced me, but at the same time would take me out of my “comfort zone.” God knew what I needed and through perseverance and his perfect timing, he finally answered my prayer, although in a way I never dreamed. I had to trust him, step out in faith, and make the choice that I did.

The choice I made took me to a place in my life I have never been. It was truly a blessing, but in the first several months of transition there were many times when I felt very alone in adjusting to my new situation. During these months I got to know my neighbor’s 14 year old outdoor cat named Tiggy. He befriended me with his loving personality. Even now as I arrive home, Tiggy comes running across the yard with his prominent “meow” to greet me. It was as if he had waited for me all day. He desires attention while giving attention at the same time and has become a pleasurable part of my day.

One day after it had just finished raining I noticed a beautiful rainbow in the backyard. Loving photography the way I do, I quickly grabbed my camera and went outside to capture it. As I headed to the backyard, I noticed Tiggy pouncing across the yard towards me. My focus at the moment was on getting a great shot of the rainbow. As I diligently focused in on the beautiful scene, I was startled as I felt something jump on the pole that stood a good four to five feet high right beside me – it was Tiggy! He was determined to get my attention and that he did; it was the perfect photo bomb!

Sadly, we recently found out Tiggy has leukemia. It truly broke my heart, and I pray he doesn’t have to suffer. A person would never know he was sick, for he is still so vibrant and full of life. We don’t know how much longer we will have Tiggy with us, but we are sure that while he is here there will be plenty of love for him to share.  Regardless, though, his being here has helped me cope with the change in my life.

Remember when life gives you a chance at something you’ve waited on, you may have to leave your comfort zone and there may be times of loneliness, but be assured there will always be a “Tiggy” to help you along.
