Crimson Singletary

On Saturday, Richmond FC played two teams in their league and dominated both games.  In game one, Richmond got off to a slow start giving the Raeford team a few opportunities to put Richmond on its heels.

After halftime, the team found its rhythm and was able to hold Raeford United scoreless while netting 10 goals, while also putting many more shots on net.

Game two was a mismatched affair from the beginning, with Richmond scoring at will for the entire game against the Juggernauts.

Eleven different players were able to find the back net in the second game. At the half, with a 15-0 lead, Richmond’s coaching staff started moving players to different positions to get all the girls a little more comfortable. This will prove to be a huge benefit to the girls as they travel to Myrtle Beach to play in the Great Carolina Shootout this upcoming weekend.

Freshmen Singletary and Millen were solid on the back line all day, along with seniors Matheson and Yannone, and the goalkeeper play of Swinney and Hoffman. The Richmond team, after three matches this season, has yet to allow a goal, and has only allowed a few shots on goal.

Overall, the Richmond ladies team has scored 41 goals in three matches, while holding their opponents scoreless. Here is the breakdown of scoring in the two games played on Saturday:

Graham, 7

Wiggins, 5

Lambeth, 3

Nicholson, 3

Swinney, 3

Bornhorst 2

Millen, 2

Standridge, 2

Hoffman, 1

Hooks, 1

Matheson, 1

Singletary, 1

“I was very proud of the girls,” head coach Abel Alvarado stated. “They played good all day. It was nice to switch the players around some, so I can see who is capable of playing where, in case of injury or missing players in the next games. Myrtle Beach will be tougher competition."

The Great Carolina Shootout will be on Saturday, October 7, and Sunday, October 8, in Myrtle Beach. Stay tuned to the RO for results from this tournament.
