ASHEBORO — Last week, the N.C. Zoo opened its latest attraction: Treehouse Trek.
The exhibit, located in the Africa region, “is a new adventure for guests of all abilities that offers easy and accessible fun around whimsical treehouses, rope bridges and an oversized play nest,” according to the Zoo’s website.
Public Relations Director Deborah Fuchs said the “official kid testers” gave it “a big thumbs up” when it opened Friday.
A portion of the attraction’s play area is ADA accessible for children in wheelchairs.
The Zoo’s website lists several rules for the Treehouse Trek:
Children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by a ticketed adult (16 and up).
Recommended for ages 3 and up.
Guests must be no more than a maximum weight of 250 pounds to participate on climbing elements and slides.
Proper footwear is required — no bare feet. Guests should ensure that their shoes are secure, and all shoelaces are tied. Flip-flops or unsecured footwear are not recommended. Closed-toe, secure sneakers are best.
The Treehouse Trek is open daily, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Oct. 31.
Tickets, which are an additional $3 aside from admission, are available for purchase until 4 p.m. Fun Tickets, which can be purchased for access to the Zoo’s other attractions — including paddle boats, the giraffe deck, butterfly garden and Virtual Reality Africa experience — are also accepted.
