Douglas Frye

SUPPLY — Douglas Watson Frye, 69, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Monday, Aug. 19, 2019, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.

A native of Lee County, he was born Nov. 4, 1949, a son of the late Morris Watson Frye and Rachel Inez Milliken Frye. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Jennifer Frye; two brothers, Darrell and Jesses Wayne Frye; and two sisters, Rachel Cox and Ida Gray Groce.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Georgia Leviner Frye; two sons, Howie Leviner and Doug Frye Jr.; one daughter, Nichole Whitman (Stuart); one sister, Darlene Van Sise (Jim); eight grandchildren, Nicholas and Brandon Banks, Courtnie Robbins, Whitney, Kenny, Charlie, Ronnie and Joey Frye; plus two great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Banks and Fenris Stokley.

Doug served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era with service in Germany. He returned to Richmond County, which he always considered home, and worked in the upholstery business. He helped teach upholstery at Richmond Community College and was always willing to help anyone in need. He also enjoyed classic car restoration. 

The family will receive friends at Carter Funeral Home-Colonial Chapel from 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. The funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill UMC Cemetery in Wallace, South Carolina.
