HAMLET — Around 200 older residents from around Richmond County filled the banquet room at Cole Auditorium Friday evening for the annual Senior Citizen Prom.

The event is organized by Community Home Care and Hospice in conjunction with the Hamlet Senior Center and Richmond County Council on Aging.

This year there was a Halloween theme, featuring decorations from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

“We hold this event to give back to our senior community that is often overlooked with events,” said Tonya Butts, with CHCH.

Butts said that all seniors are invited, including those in nursing communities from Richmond, Anson and Moore counties.

Organizers also collect and purchase old prom dresses for the women to wear, she added.

Decor and catering were provided by Jesuite Ellerbe and Bobby Odom donated his time as the DJ.
