ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Health Department reported Saturday afternoon that eight more residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
The latest update brings the county’s coronavirus case count to 112 since the first case was reported April 7.
One patient is currently hospitalized and 67 are under home isolation.
Richmond was one of the last 10 counties to have a confirmed case and the number has continued to rise over the past five weeks, with now 42 being recovered.
Four of Richmond County’s cases were tied to an outbreak at a nursing home in Southern Pines. Several others worked at Burlington Industries and at least two at Perdue Farms.
Out of everyone tested, 730 have had negative results, according to the Health Department.
Of those who have tested positive, 81 of them have been 51 years old or older.
The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reports that 238,586 tests have been performed statewide with 17,982 coming back positive.
Avery County still remains the only one of the state’s 100 counties to not record a positive case of the coronavirus.
Earlier this week, DHHS released the number of presumed recoveries as 9,115, which is more than half of the total number of cases. An updated estimate will be released on Monday.
