Crump elected to 2nd term as chairman of N.C. Wildlife Commission

ROCKINGHAM — Monty Crump will continue to head up the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission Board.

Crump, who is also the city manager for Rockingham, was recently elected to serve another term as chairman, according to NCWRC.

Appointed to the commission by Gov. Roy Cooper in 2017 to serve as the District 6 commissioner, Crump was elected as vice chairman in 2019 and chairman in 2021. Earlier this year, Cooper appointed him to another six-year term.

“It’s an honor to be re-elected chairman by fellow commissioners,” Crump said in a statement. I’d like to thank Gov. Cooper for the opportunity to serve on the Commission. I look forward to continuing to serve the Wildlife Commission in this leadership role.”

According to the press release, Crump is “a lifetime North Carolina sportsman, outdoorsman and conservationist and a strong advocate for the preservation and enhancement of both the state’s wildlife and natural resources, particularly water management.”

Mark Craig, of Greensboro, was elected as vice chairman, replacing Thomas Fonville.

Craig, who was appointed to the commission in 2015 by state Senate Leader Phil Berger, R-Rockingham, is president of R.H. Barringer Distributing Company and “a strong proponent of utilizing a science-based approach to advocate for sustainable recommendations in wildlife management.”
