ROCKINGHAM – On Saturday night our own local  gospel group,” Cameronian Quartet,” celebrated twenty-eight years of singing southern gospel music.

The quartet, along with guest singer Ms. Jeanine Hanson, sang for a packed house at the Cameronian Presbyterian Church on Northam Road in Rockingham.

The original quartet was formed from the choir of Cameronian Church. They sang their first song, “Lean on Me,” for the church’s Homecoming Day celebration in August of 1990.

Original members included Alan Snead (lead), Jimmy Herring (baritone), Earl Bland (tenor) and Tommy Criscoe (bass).

Mr. Tommy Criscoe is the only original member still singing with the Quartet. In 1993, Mike Snead joined the group as their tenor. Kenneth Lynch joined the group in 2000 as their baritone and Dan Allen started singing with the group in 2011 as their lead and bass singer.

The quartet has recorded several southern gospel c.d.’s including their newest called “Some Old-Some New-Same Jesus.”

The group spent eight long recording sessions at Serenade Studio in Bladenboro, NC, to come up with their latest c.d. They practice their songs at least once a week and have a very busy schedule around Christmas time.

Jeanine Hanson has been singing with her family ever since she can remember. Saturday night she asked her father, Mr. James Lyerly, to join her on stage as they sang one of his favorite songs, ” I am Redeemed.” Both did a great job singing and the crowd seemed to really enjoy it.
