Hamlet Police call EMS for possible OD of larceny suspect

HAMLET — A woman was suspected of suffering from an overdose after she was caught for allegedly stealing from a retail store last week.

Officers with the Hamlet Police Department responded to a larceny call at Family Dollar late Friday afternoon.

When they arrived, police say the suspect, 36-year-old Amanda Bagley, of Pear Drive, was still at the scene. She is accused of stealing $93 worth of clothing from the store.

As they were placing her under arrest, officers say Bagley was stumbling and unable to stand on her own. They reportedly found drugs, including Valium and Tramadol, on her person and EMS was called for a possible overdose.

Officers charged Bagley with one felony count of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance; and one misdemeanor count each of larceny, simple possession of a Schedule III controlled substance and simple possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance.

Records show she was also served with two orders for arrest, including one from Stanly County, each for failing to appear in court on a misdemeanor.

She is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a combined $12,000 secured bond: $8,000 on the drug and larceny charges; $2,000 for each OFA.

Online court records show she has a pending traffic citation for driving with a revoked license in Stanly County with an Oct. 15 court date; and a misdemeanor larceny charge from the Rockingham Police Department with a scheduled court date of Oct. 10.

Bagley is scheduled to appear on the Hamlet charges Oct. 24.

The only conviction on Bagley’s record, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction, is for driving while impaired in 2009.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
