EAST ROCKINGHAM – In the past few weeks, the acquisition of Rohanen School by Place of Grace has been a hot topic here in Richmond County. The air continues to buzz with excitement as numerous people lend a helping hand in making the dream become a reality.

The doors will open for the first time Monday, August 13, to welcome the community to attend Vacation Bible School (VBS) which will continue through Friday, August 17. Karen Walters and Misti Loan will be heading VBS with the theme “The Rolling River Rampage.” It will kick-off with supper being served at 5:30 p.m. each night to all attending. VBS will then follow from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.

There will be something offered to accommodate ages 0-100 and beyond if you are blessed with extended years. Nursery will be provided as well as adult classes; everyone is welcome. Transportation is available for anyone who has the need. The grand finale will follow on Sunday, August 19, as the first church service takes place on the grounds beginning at 11 a.m. This special celebration service will start with commencement, then follow with a BBQ dinner for all who attend.

There will be two Sunday services offered in the weeks thereafter, the first one beginning at 9:30 a.m. and the second one at 11 a.m. Pastor Gary Richardson and Associate Pastor Ernie Walters will lead the congregation. “Our desire is for this to be a hub of Christian ministry where dreams become reality. I feel we are centered to reach out to all, and since ministry is the heart of what we are doing, we are ideally situated,” Associate Pastor Walters stated.

The next community outreach will be a “Back to School Bash” which will be held Wednesday, August 22, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This outreach will include a bounce house, water activities, and a cookout. Transportation will be provided if needed.

There will be many other community activities to follow in the future with the AWANA (Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed) program beginning Wednesday, September 5. This program will begin at 6:15 p.m. and accommodate children ages two years through eighth grade. “Making an impact early could make all the difference in the world to the children,” replied Karen Walters.

An after-school program will be offered Monday through Friday free of charge beginning August 27 from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Included in this program will be tutoring, various clubs, storytelling, and food. Loan stated, “We want to give the children a safe and structured place to grow and learn.”

All are welcome to attend The Place of Grace Campus.  Please call 910-817-7165 if you need transportation, more information, or would like to help in any way.
