Hamlet – Richmond Community College has partnered with local companies to conduct employment interviews for students who successfully complete the college’s upcoming  “Industrial Maintenance Mechanics” course.

Ten companies from Richmond and Scotland counties  have agreed, through the RCC Workforce and Economic Development Division, to grant actual job interviews to those students who have learned the basic skills and technical knowledge encompassed in the IMM course.

This class is designed to educate participants in the various ways of maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical equipment, electrical motor controls, and other systems commonly found in a production and manufacturing environment.

The class itself is scheduled for April 3rd through July 17th and will meet from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (as well as some Saturdays) on the main RCC campus in Hamlet.

These businesses include Big Rock Sports, FCC NC Paper Plant, Therafirm, Global Packaging, Direct Pack, Plastek, Perdue, Cascades Tissue in Maxton, Cascades Tissue in Rockingham and RSI.”

It was also noted that Chris Fowler, the course instructor and employee of Von Drehle for 11 years, stated that “Students will be prepared and taught real-world situations that can occur in any industrial type business.”

It was also noted by RCC that Fowler himself is a graduate of RichmondCC and “has diplomas in Machine Tool Technology and Mechanical Engineering, as well as a certificate in AutoCAD.”

Registration for the class should be completed by contacting WED Program Director Angineek Gillenwater at (910) 410-1848 or ajgillenwater@richmondcc.edu.
