Richmond Community College cancels Thursday classes

HAMLET — Early College students no longer have to worry about missing any classes as Richmond Community College announced it will be closed on Thursday.

When Richmond County Schools announced its closure earlier on Wednesday, REaCH students were advised to use their discretion on attending classes since, at that time, the college had not yet closed.

A determination for Friday will be made Thursday afternoon.

St. Andrews University announced late Tuesday that it will be closed on Thursday and Friday. UNC Pembroke and other colleges in the eastern part of the state also announced they would not have classes Thursday and Friday.

Counties to the east of Richmond — including Scotland, Hoke, Lee, Robeson, and Marlboro County, South Carolina — are under a tropical storm warning.

Richmond County is expected to receive up to 2 inches of rain from the storm, which could make landfall in Carteret County as it skirts up the coast.
