Warrants: East Rockingham man sold more than 25 grams of meth

ROCKINGHAM — An East Rockingham man is facing multiple drug charges, accused of selling more than 20 grams of methamphetamine to a confidential informant.

Jimmy Fain Strickland Jr., 57, of Flowers Street, allegedly sold meth from Ford Explorer, according to warrants.

He is accused of selling 0.9 grams to a confidential informant April 5. That same informant allegedly bought meth from Strickland several other times between April 22 and June 13, including one purchase of 26 grams.

Strickland was arrested June 14 and charged with: five counts of selling or delivering a Schedule II controlled substance; three counts of possession with intent to manufacture sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance; and one count of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance.

He was booked into the Richmond County Jail where he is being held under a $50,000 secured bond and is scheduled to appear in court June 27.

Those charges were filed by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Online court records show Strickland is also facing charges of attempting to obtain property by false pretenses and possession of five or more counterfeit instruments from the Rockingham Police Department. His next court appearance on those charges is Aug. 5.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Strickland has a criminal record dating back 40 years, according to the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

He was convicted of misdemeanor larceny in 1978 and given probation, which was revoked when he was convicted in 1980 of receiving stolen goods, a felony. Records show he was incarcerated from Feb. 29, 1980 until May 22, 1982.

In 1990, Strickland was convicted of injury to property, assault on a female and non-support.

His first drug convictions were in 2004, two counts of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance. Earlier that year, Strickland was convicted of an employment security violation.

Two years later, he was convicted of possessing stolen goods. Strickland’s probation for one of that charge and one of the drug possession charges was revoked in 2007 when he was convicted of misdemeanor larceny in Union County and he was incarcerated for four months.

Later in 2007, Strickland was convicted on four counts of cheating for property or services. His initial probation was revoked and he served 10 months behind bars.
