“CLASSROOM CREDITS” WITH DOMONIC TILLMAN

Tillman is nearing the end of his sophomore year at Richmond Senior High School. He is an Honors student with a 3.00 GPA.

Last semester, Tillman took Spanish I, Math 2, American History and Weight Training Honors. He earned an A in Weight Training and had a B in Math 2.

Currently, Tillman is taking four more classes at the high school. This spring, he’s enrolled in Biology, English II, Physical Education and another section of Weight Training Honors.

“I really like my Weight Training class,” Tillman shared. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s giving me a chance to get bigger and stronger for next football season.

“Going to Richmond is good,” he added. “There are a lot of nice people here and I get along well with everyone.”

“ON THE PODIUM”  WITH DOMONIC TILLMAN

Keeping busy with two meets last week, Tillman found himself on the podium often for the Raiders.

Richmond competed in a regular-season Sandhills Athletic Conference meet at Pinecrest, which also saw Hoke County High School compete.

Over the weekend, the Raiders traveled to Hoke County to participate in the Kathy McMillan Invitational, named for Raeford’s silver medal-winning Olympic long jumper. As a team, the Raiders placed third.

Tillman’s best overall performance came at the Kathy McMillan Invitational, where he was awarded the boys’ MVP honor for collecting the most individual points.

Finishing with a second place time and two third-place results, Tillman impressed with a clearance of 5 feet, 8 inches in the high jump. He was second only to teammate Jayden Hamilton (5 feet, 10 inches).

His two third-place finishes came in the 110-meter hurdles (16.47 seconds) and the triple jump (39 feet, 7 inches).

Earlier in the week at Pinecrest, Tillman had a third-place leap of 20 feet, 3 inches in the long jump, the event he said he enjoys the most.

The Raiders will host a home meet, their final home meet of the season, Thursday at 5 p.m.
