ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond junior varsity boys’ basketball team received some holiday cheer this week.
First-year head coach Josh Calhoun announced on Monday that the JV Raiders will compete in the annual Holiday in the Pines tournament.
Hosted by Pinecrest High School, the JV Raiders will compete in three games over a three-day period following Christmas.
Set for Dec. 27, 28 and 29, the JV bracket will consist of five teams — Richmond, Pinecrest, Montgomery Central, Willow Spring and Franklin Academy.
The JV Raiders will open on Dec. 27 against familiar foe Pinecrest (1-4) at 4:30 p.m.
That will be followed by a game against Montgomery Central (3-4) on Dec. 28 and another on Dec. 29 against Willow Spring (4-4). Both games are slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
The JV Raiders have started the 2022-23 season 4-0, including a 1-0 start in Sandhills Athletic Conference play.
Richmond has outscored its opponents 232-129, averaging 58.0 points per game on offense. The JV Raiders are allowing just 32.3 points per contest.
The Richmond Observer will continue its coverage of the JV Raider basketball team over the holiday break.
