ROCKINGHAM — Continuing a busy day of sports on campus, the Richmond Senior High School boys’ soccer program also got to work on Monday.

Following the tone set by the football and volleyball teams earlier in the day, the Raiders started their first official day of the 2023 fall sports season.

Sixth-ear head coach Chris Larsen and assistant Coach Bennie hosted over 60 players during the first-day tryout. Roughly half of the group was split into varsity and junior varsity practice teams.

Spending two hours on the pitch, players worked through a series of individual and team drills.

Among the areas of focus were passing, ball control, speed and agility, shooting and small-sided games.

Following two more days of tryouts this week, with the final rosters being posted Wednesday, the Raiders will scrimmage Saturday at Independence High School.

Richmond will play three 35-minute games — against Palisades (12 p.m.), Olympic (12:40 p.m.) and Queens Grant (1:20 p.m.) high schools.

The Richmond Observer will publish a season preview, complete with a schedule and video interviews, in the coming weeks.
