ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Senior High School had its own holiday celebration Wednesday — the official start of the spring sports season.
While offseason workouts have been going on the past few weeks, Valentine’s Day marked the opening of the upcoming season.
The baseball, boys’ tennis and and boys’ track and field teams all held their first of three days of tryouts.
Wednesday was the first day allowed for spring sports activities by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.
Each respective program was led by head coaches Eric Brown (baseball), Jessica Covington (tennis) and John Rich (track and field).
The biggest group of participants belonged to track and field, which had close to 40 student-athletes try out. The baseball team had 35 players on the field and the tennis team had six tryouts.
Tryouts for all three programs will continue Thursday and Friday, with the first practices of the new season beginning Monday.
The Richmond Observer will continue its award-winning sports coverage of all sports this spring.
