“SACKING THE QUARTERBACK” WITH TERANDE SPENCER

During its annual homecoming game last Friday, Richmond used a balance of offense, defense and special teams to hand the Cavaliers a 55-33 loss in the first week of Sandhills Athletic Conference play.

Spencer and the Richmond defense created a lot of chaos in Southern Lee’s backfield and limited the Cavaliers to just 218 yards of total offense and 2-of-11 on third down attempts.

A large part of that disruption, Spencer recorded a single-game career high five quarterback sacks. Those were five of his eight total tackles in the win.

Seven of Spencer’s tackles were solo drag downs, and seven of the eight tackles also went for a loss.

Entering the night, Spencer had only recorded one tackle-for-loss in the previous four games combined. His single-game career-high nine tackles in a game were recorded in week three against Cardinal Gibbons High School.

On the season, Spencer is currently fourth on the team in total tackles (22), sixth in tackles per game (4.4) and leads Richmond in sacks (5.0) and TFL (8.0).

The Raiders (1-4, 1-0 SAC) will welcome in 4A rival Pinecrest High School (4-0, 0-0 SAC) on Friday. Kickoff will get underway at 7:30 p.m.
