ROCKINGHAM — Several of Richmond Senior High School’s fall athletic programs will look to get back in the win column in the coming days.
As the fifth week of the season starts Monday, it will be the first time all school year that all of Richmond’s teams will be in action.
Girls’ golf opens season Monday
The final sports program to officially begin its fall campaign will be the Richmond girls’ golf team and head coach Keith Parsons.
The Lady Raiders have five golfers this season and will tee off for their nine-hole match Monday at Scotch Meadows Country Club in Laurinburg. Richmond will compete against other Sandhills Athletic Conference teams starting at 3 p.m.

Boys’ soccer begins conference slate
After a tough non-conference schedule to begin the season, the Richmond boys’ soccer team will open SAC play this week with three matches and try to end a six-match losing streak.
The Raiders (1-6) and head coach Chris Larsen will travel twice. Monday’s match will be at Southern Lee High School (7-1) and Wednesday’s contest will be at Pinecrest High School (4-2).
Thursday will be a home match for the Raiders against non-conference Jack Britt High School (7-2). All three matches will start at 7 p.m.
In junior varsity action, the JV Raiders (2-4-1) will play at Southern Lee and Pinecrest both days and host Terry Sanford, all beginning at 5 p.m.
Volleyball has two chances to end skid
Also on a slide of three straight matches, the Richmond volleyball team and head coach Ashleigh Larsen will also try to reenter the win column with a pair of road matches.
The Lady Raiders (5-5, 1-3 SAC) will visit Lee County High School (5-2, 1-2 SAC) Tuesday, followed by another road trip to non-conference Uwharrie Charter Academy (13-2) Wednesday. Both matches will start at 6 p.m.
The JV Lady Raiders (5-4, 2-2 SAC) will also play on the road at Lee County and Uwharrie Charter. Those matches are set for 5 p.m.
Girls’ tennis returns after hiatus
Having not played in nearly two weeks due to rescheduling matches, the Lady Raider tennis team will roll over its SAC schedule this week.
Richmond (1-2, 1-2 SAC) will close the first round of conference play with a home match against Scotland High School Tuesday. The team will try to redeem an earlier loss to Southern Lee on the road Thursday.
Singles matches will start at 4 p.m. and be followed by doubles play.
Cross country teams set for third meet
After running on their home course last week, the Richmond boys and girls cross country teams will compete on the road this week.
Tuesday’s SAC meet will feature four teams — Richmond, Pinecrest, Union Pines and host Scotland. The boys’ race will start at 5 p.m., followed by the girls’ race at 5:30 p.m.
Football eyes .500 non-conference record
The Richmond varsity football team enters week four of the season with a 1-2 record and will try to even that record in its final non-conference game.
The Raiders and head coach Brad Denson will host Myers Park High School (1-2) Friday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the game or online at GoFan.co.
Back on the road this week, the JV Raiders (2-1) will try to notch their third straight win at Myers Park. Thursday’s kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
