Alfred Taylor Potter Jr.

ROCKINGHAM — Alfred Taylor “Red” Potter Jr., 78, of Rockingham, passed away, Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at The Oaks at Mayview, Raleigh.

He was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Avery County, son of Alfred T. Potter, Sr. and Stella Gwyn Potter.

Mr. Potter was retired after 40 years at Burlington Industries. After his retirement he owned and operated Green’s Grocery on Airport Road in Rockingham. He was a wonderful father, big NASCAR fan, liked bluegrass gospel music, and enjoyed his grandkids. In previous years, he and his wife were members of Cobb Memorial Baptist Church.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021 from 2-3 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 171 Clemmer Road, Rockingham.

At other times the family will be receiving friends at home of his daughter, Crystal Britt, 122 Arlee Drive, Hamlet.

The funeral will begin at 3 p.m. with Pastor Russell Edwards officiating. Burial will follow at Northam Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda McDonald Potter; and a son, Alfred T. “Sambo” Potter III.

Survivors include his daughters, Julie Watson of Raleigh, Crystal Britt of Hamlet and Tammy Potter Burns (Darrell) of Rockingham; sons, Wilbert Mitchell “Mickey” Watson of Hamlet and Joe Potter (April) of Rockingham; brother, Wayne Potter of Rockingham; 14 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
