George Staton

ROCKINGHAM — George Ernest Staton, 74, of Forest Drive, Rockingham, passed away, on Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond.

He was born March 13, 1946 in Anson County, son of Ernest Staton and Louise Adams Staton.

George was a member of Southside Free Will Baptist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, from which he retired after 24 years. He also worked at Fruit and the Loom and retired there as well. George loved the outdoors and was especially fond of hunting and fishing. One of his greatest prides was his grandchildren!

A visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020 from 1-2 p.m. with a funeral to follow at 2 p.m. All will be held at Southside Free Will Baptist Church, 660 Sandy Ridge Church Road, Ellerbe, NC 28338.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, social distancing and face covering or masks are required. This is to keep our families, those who attend, as well as our staff safe.

Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park, Rockingham.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Carlisle Staton of the home; daughter, Heather S. Slieff of Boston, Massachusetts; stepdaughter, Denise McKenzie of Rockingham; son, Joseph Staton of Rockingham; stepsons, Jeff Blanton of Hamlet and Lawrence Blanton of Rockingham; sister, Wanda Smith of Rockingham; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren; and his dog, Lulu.
