HAMLET — James “Jim” Darrell Warren Sr., 74, of Hamlet, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021 at Duke University Hospital in Durham.
He was born in Richmond County, Aug. 25, 1946, son of James Herbert and Mildred Dutton Warren.
Mr. Warren was a veteran of the United States Navy. He was a member of the Hamlet Church of God of Prophecy, serving as a lay minister. He also served as a past chaplain for FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital.
He loved his family and enjoyed spending summer vacations at the beach. The entire family was looking forward to the upcoming marriage of his grandson and spending more time together.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, James Darrell Warren Jr.; and sister, Donna Perez.
He is survived by his loving wife, Anita Blue Warren of the home; son, Shawn McLean Warren (Rene) of Wendell; brother, Jerry Warren (Sharon) of Seagrove; sisters, Sandra Warren of Rockingham and Joann Duehring (Ray) of Clayton; sister-in-law, Cathy Clark (Darrell); grandchildren, Darrin, Daniel, Nick, Kayci, Tyler, Eli, Grayson, Alex; and great-granddaughter, Leia. He also leaves to cherish his memory many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, special friends and many brothers and sisters in Christ. Mr. Warren was also “Papa” to many children throughout his life.
A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 11, 2021 at 10 a.m. at the Richmond Community College Amphitheater, Hamlet. Please feel free to bring a lawn chair, however theater seating will be available. Please wear a face covering and social distancing will be requested at the service.
