John Douglas Todd

HAMLET — John Douglas “Doug” Todd, 83, of Hamlet, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at his home.

He was born April 12, 1938 in Spartanburg, South Carolina, a son of the late Edwin P. and Julia White Todd.

Doug graduated from Clemson University School of Textiles in 1961. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Hamlet and served as a Sunday school teacher, superintendent and deacon for many years. Doug was a devout Christian, devoted husband and father. His favorite pastime was fishing. He had an infectious smile and could brighten the darkest day with his lighthearted but witty sense of humor. 

He was preceded in death by sisters Dona Todd and Tanny Gilliam.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rebecca Hodges Todd of the home; brother, Robert Todd (Glynda) of Boiling Springs, South Carolina; children, Monica Horne of Matthews, Julia Brigman (Ronald) of Rockingham and Anthony Todd (Karen) of Rockingham; grandchildren, Tyler Horne, Rebecca Brock, Ronald Brigman Jr., Krista Todd, DeWayne Jacques, Damien Todd and Justin Todd; great-grandchildren, Cali, Mallory, Aria, and Madison; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at noon at Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Connor officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
