Kathleen Helms

HAMLET — Kathleen Brigman Helms, age 77, of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020.

Kathleen was born Feb. 1, 1943 in Scotland County, daughter of the late Weldon Brigman and Martha Beatrice Knight.

She retired after years of service from Fieldcrest Mohawk Industries. She was a longtime member of Sandhills Wesleyan Church and then attended Piney Plains Freewill Baptist Church. Gardening, fishing and traveling were among her favorite pastimes, but above all, she cherished the time she spent with family. To them, she will be remembered as a loving mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend who will truly be missed.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Larry Knight.

Kathleen leaves behind to cherish her memory a daughter, Deborah Johnson (Maxie) of Rockingham; brother, Weldon Brigman (Molly) of Bennettsville, South Carolina; sisters, Norma Jean English (Wes) of Hamlet, Kay Odom (Steve) of Chesterfield, South Carolina, Maggie English (Carl) of Bennettsville, South Carolina, Barbara Alford of Laurinburg, Elaine Honeycutt of Bennettsville, South Carolina; sister-in-law, Debbie Knight of Gibson; grandsons, Rob Welch Jr. of Charlotte, Dalton Johnson of Rockingham; along with a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.

Funeral services to celebrate her life will be at noon, Saturday, Aug. 15, 2020 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Bob Grooms and the Rev. Jamie English. Burial will follow in Brigman-Knight Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be given to Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church, 2220 Adamsville Road North, McColl, SC 29570; or the First Baptist Church, 208 Charlotte Street, Hamlet, NC 28345.

Current COVID-19 mandates require a facial mask or covering, attendance for services will be limited to family.
