Christine Poston Powell Maree, 86, of Rockingham, completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023.
Mrs. Maree was born July 18, 1937 in Richmond County, the daughter of the late Leo and Myrtle Mabel Millen Poston.
She was a graduate of Rohanen High School, Class of 1955, and attended Limestone University in Gaffney, South Carolina. She was a member of Trinity Emmanuel Holiness Church and had retired from Tultex Mills.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Julius “Coy” Powell and Hal Maree; and a brother, Earl Poston.
Surviving are her children, Gayle Sanford (Tommy) and Julia Hileman (Curtis); grandchildren, Matt Sanford (Melissa), Joseph Sanford (Micha), Dane Corbett and Tanda Chabot; great-grandchildren, Logan Sanford, Alana Sanford, Aaden Sanford, Kennedy Sanford, Bradley Chabot, Andrew Chabot, Kayla Chabot, Paisley Forrester and Branson Forrester; and stepson, Randall Maree.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023 at Trinity Emmanuel Holiness Church with the Rev. James Croke officiating. Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Richmond County Memorial Park.
The family will see friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, 2023 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
