OBITUARY: Weldon Waters Jr.

Weldon “Sugar Bear” Waters Jr., 69, of Aberdeen, formerly of Hamlet, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2023 at Dahlia Gardens, Aberdeen.

He was born Oct. 16, 1953, in Richmond County, son of the late Weldon Waters Sr. and Mary Grace Lathan Privette.

Mr. Waters previously worked with the City of Hamlet Public Works with leaf and limb removal. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and also enjoyed basketball, Raider football and watching wrestling.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Lovin and Larry Lovin.

Mr. Waters is survived by his siblings, Scott Waters (Laurie) of Hamlet, Glenda Grooms of Rockingham, Mary Griggs of York, South Carolina, and Judy Lynn (Phil) of Hamlet; stepmother, Martha Ann Waters of Hamlet; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 from 2-3 p.m. at Harrington Funeral Home.

The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Harrington Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Marks Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
