ROCKINGHAM — Zachary Wayne Thornton, 27, of Rockingham, passed away on Dec. 11, 2021.
He was born on Nov. 9, 1994 in Richmond County, a son of Wayne Eugene Thornton Jr. and Jennifer Lynn Russell.
He is survived by his father, Wayne Eugene Thornton Jr. (fiancé Tammy Looney); mother Jennifer Russell Grooms and stepfather Kevin Grooms; brother, Taylor Alexander Thornton (fiancé Savanna Perkins); paternal grandparents, Wayne Eugene Thornton Sr. and Karen Thornton; maternal grandparents, Donald and Mary Russell; step-grandparents, Cecil and Janice Grooms; uncles, Chris Thornton, Matt Thornton and Dennis Guinn; and was preceded in death by uncle Mark Guinn.
The family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021 from 12:45–1:45 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Facial coverings and social distancing are recommended.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Eastside Cemetery.
