BENNETTSVILLE — The Richmond Senior High School wrestling program muscled its way to its best team finish of the season last weekend.

Competing in the Spence McNeil Duals at Marlboro County High School, the Raiders placed second overall out of eight teams.

Wrestling three team matches, Richmond defeated the host Bulldogs and St. Pauls High School, before falling to Lumberton High School in the championship match.

Leading the Raiders with a perfect record on the day with three wins apiece were senior K’Mauri Morgan (215-pounds) and freshman Dylan Nunez (120-pounds).

A host of other Raiders finished the tournament with two victories each — Eric Chavis (126-pounds), Brian Ingram (132-pounds), Hayden Smith (144-pounds), Amier Bostic (165-pounds) and Jordan Hamilton (190-pounds).

Eight Raiders win in victory over St. Pauls

Using a combination of pinfalls, technical falls and forfeit wins, the Raiders defeated St. Pauls 46-18, their largest margin of victory during the event.

Richmond secured free points when Smith, Bostic, Antoine McDonald (157-pounds) and Samuel Dockery (175-pounds) were credited with a forfeit win. Together, those matches added 24 points to the team’s total.

Two lightweights and two heavyweights combined for the remaining 22 points. Nunez and Ingram each had a pin (six points each), while Hamilton and Morgan both rolled to tech falls (five points each).

Nunez and Ingram pinned Izaiah Whitted and Tyler McCaw, respectively. Hamilton and Morgan defeated Jyicere Williams and Dashawn Collins by matching scores of 18-3.

Pins guide Raiders past Bulldogs

Of Richmond’s seven individual victories in their 41-30 win over Marlboro County, five of them were via a pinfall (30 points). The other wins were a forfeit (six points) and a tech fall (five points).

Nunez picked up his second pin of the day against Jamison Bethea. Chavis got in the win column with a pin over Tristan Brown, and Smith notched his final win in a bout with Ty’jai King.

The Raiders’ other two pinfalls were courtesy of Hamilton against Aaron Chavis and Jeremiah Covington (285-pounds) in the heavyweight match over Jerrius Alford.

Solidifying the win were Bostic (forfeit) and Morgan, who defeated Jamorie Williams by a final score of 17-2 for the tech fall.

Championship match goes in favor of Lumberton

One of the final two teams competing, Richmond’s lineup ran out of steam before it was able to finish the job. The Raiders lost 60-22 to the Lumberton Pirates.

Lumberton recorded six pinfall wins (36 points) and four forfeits (24 points) to earn the title. In Richmond’s four wins, the team had one pin, one forfeit and two tech falls.

Nunez capped his three-win day with a forfeit in the 120-pound division. Ingram got the Raiders’ only pin in the 132-pound match against Rochelle Chatman.

Chavis secured five points with a 17-1 tech fall win over Bryan Jones, and Morgan ended his perfect run through the tournament with an 18-3 tech fall victory in his match with Avery McNeil.

Richmond (10-11, 3-3 SAC) will compete in the Sandhills Athletic Conference championship tournament Saturday at Union Pines High School.
