ROCKINGHAM — Although one charge has already been dismissed, a Richmond County man is facing charges related to a stolen truck from December.
Brian Keith Gerald, 52, is accused of stealing a red 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 on Dec. 13, 2024.
Gerald was initially charged that day with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle for being in that truck. However, court records show that charge — along with charges of going armed to the terror of the people and injury to personal property for allegedly shooting out the tires of a car — was dismissed on March 20.
The day after the charges were dismissed, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant charging Gerald with larceny of a motor vehicle, forgery, uttering a forged endorsement, obtaining property by false pretenses, and felony conspiracy.
Gerald allegedly conspired with Jennifer Nicole Dawkins to forge the signature of the truck’s owner to present an application for lost title at the local license plate office.
Records show Gerald was arrested March 26 and booked into the Richmond County Jail on a $2,500 secured bond.
Dawkins, who was already in jail on unrelated charges, was served on March 21, the same day the warrant was issued. She is charged with felony conspiracy and forgery. Dawkins was given a $10,000 secured bond, in addition to the $12,500 secured bond she was already being held on for charges related to a robbery. (See related stories.)
Records show Dawkins also has several pending traffic citations from the Rockingham Police Department, Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Both Gerald and Dawkins are scheduled to appear in court April 10.
Records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction show Gerald was convicted in 2003 of hiring with intent to defraud. Two years later, he was convicted of obtaining an advance under a written agreement.
In 2009, records show Gerald was convicted of assault on a female, discharging a firearm into an occupied property and damage to property.
Dawkins appears to have no prior convictions in North Carolina.
