ROCKINGHAM — A sex offender on probation is now facing charges related to a reported assault.

An arrest warrant alleges that 32-year-old Reginald Dwayne Taylor Jr., of Rockingham, assaulted another man on June 12, causing “an acute displaced fracture of the left medial orbital wall, a large laceration around the left eye, a busted lip, swelling and bruising of the face and eye.”

The warrant was issued to the Rockingham Police Department on June 17 and Taylor was taken into custody on June 25, charged with assault inflicting serious injury and habitual misdemeanor assault.

For the second charge, which is a felony, the warrant lists several prior convictions that aren’t included in records with the N.C. Department of Adult Correction. However, those convictions are found in online court records.

Records show Taylor was convicted in 2022 of simple assault in both Richmond and Scotland counties, and assault inflicting serious injury in Mecklenburg County. He was also convicted the following year in Mecklenburg of assault with a deadly weapon.

Taylor is being held without bond in the Richmond County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court July 6.

Court records show Taylor as the reporting victim in a cyberstalking case from 2022. A criminal summons was re-issued for the defendant in that case last month, records show.

Taylor is currently serving a 12-month suspended sentence following an April 16 conviction on a charge of misdemeanor larceny.

Records show Taylor was also previously convicted in Moore County of incest and taking indecent liberties with a child in Moore County. According to the N.C. Sex Offender Registry, Taylor was 21 at the time and the victim was 14. He was incarcerated for nearly four years.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
