ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina man wanted for eluding a trooper in a 2024 chase in Richmond County was recently apprehended in Union County.
According to warrants, Jerry Brandon Arnette, of Dillon, South Carolina, was 33 years old when he refused to stop for a trooper with the N.C. State Highway Patrol on U.S. 220 in August of 2024.
Arnette was allegedly driving 79 mph in a 55 mph zone. Warrants also allege that wire was showing on his tires and that he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
During the chase, Arnette allegedly ran through the red light at the intersection of U.S. 220 and U.S. 74 Business, as well as two stop signs. He also reportedly drove left of center while on the U.S. 1 overpass at U.S. 74 and made an improper U-turn.
At the end of the vehicle pursuit, Arnette reportedly fled on foot.
Arrest warrants were issued Aug. 17, the day after the reported chase, charging Arnette with: a felony count of fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle; and misdemeanor counts of reckless driving with wanton disregard, having no operator’s license; failing to heed a light or siren; and resisting a public officer.
Arnette was also cited for: speeding; failing to stop at a steady red light; two counts of failing to stop at a stop sign or flashing light; driving left of center; making an improper turn; failure to wear a seat belt as a driver; and having unsafe tires.
Court records show Arnette was arrested by the Union County Sheriff’s Office on March 15. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail March 25 where he is being held on a $50,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in court April 13.
Arnette has no prior convictions in North Carolina.
