S.C. man charged with child sex crimes in Richmond County

ROCKINGHAM — A South Carolina man is accused of performing sex acts on a pre-teen child.

According to an arrest warrant from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, 40-year-old Abieser Sanchez Santos, of Sumter, South Carolina, engaged in several sexual acts with a child under the age of 13. Those acts, according to the warrant, include rubbing the victim’s buttocks, rubbing and kissing the victim’s chest and performing oral sex on the victim.

The alleged acts happened between Jan. 1, 2017 and April 5, 2021, according to the warrant.

Santos was arrested May 5 and charged with one felony count each of first-degree sex offense with a child younger than 13 and taking indecent liberties with a child. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail, where he remains under a $250,000 secured bond.

Santos appeared in court May 10 and has another appearance scheduled for June 14.

Records show Santos has no prior convictions or other pending charges in North Carolina.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
