DELIVERY DOH!: Skyscraper sent south

RICHMOND COUNTY — A skyscraper intended for Richmond County, New York, the county in which Staten Island is situated, was delivered through the U.S. Postal Service Monday.

The courier, Karen D. Mael, was dumbfounded when the error was discovered.

“I suppose the ‘Y’ was somehow misplaced … it just goes to show how such small details matter in the postal service,” Mael said.

As the reader may have correctly guessed, the oversized package was sent to Richmond County N C instead of Richmond County NYC or Richmond County N.C.

The space in between the “N” and “C “was apparently interpreted as an error resulting in the understandable misunderstanding that the package was intended for the more southern of the two Richmond counties.

Arrangements are being made to have the package returned to the original sender in Augusta, Georgia, in Richmond County. Hopefully it arrives.

Small Craft Advisory for Lake Cordova

CORDOVA — Large waves issuing from light winds have forced the Richmond County Puddle, Ditch and Transient Waterways Authority (RCPDTWA) to issue a small craft advisory for April 1 for the perpetual puddle located at the corner of Rosalyn Road and U.S. 1, aka Lake Cordova.

All rubber ducks, R.C. boats, and abandoned cups are advised to seek dry land today.

The RCPDTWA further encourages all owners of buckets, old tires, and other water holding devices to please evacuate all such transient waterways during the advisory period. Large waves resulting from said light winds can result in severe damage to tadpoles, mosquito larvae and debris.

Other puddles (perpetual and seasonal) and ditches are also under advisement. The RCPDTWA will issue further advice at such a time when data is available.

RATS closes subway

ROCKINGHAM — The Rockingham Area Transit Service has requested the following public service announcement be run during the April 1 holiday.

PSA 4-1-2024: The Rockingham Area Transit Service (RATS) would like to remind all metro passengers that the underground subway train running from Lawrence Street to Green Street is closed due to repairs for the indefinite future.

However, the issue will be definitely fixed when the definitive problem is better defined.

We thank you for your continued support and ask that you continue to ride RATS during your commute.

Naming process announced for Hamlet water tanks

HAMLET — The Aerial Water Department of Hamlet has decided to give names to the two downtown water tanks that have graced the city’s city scape for some time.

The two silver tanks overlook a spiderweb network of roads leading out of or into (depending on your intended destination) downtown Hamlet or not downtown Hamlet (depending on your intended destination).

The names will be decided by pulling two names out of a hat.

There will be a vote held to determine what two names to place inside the hat immediately following the drawing. Please have your best names handy by April 1.
