RALEIGH — State Sen. Tom McInnis last week was appointed to the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations.
The commission provides “ongoing legislative examination and review of public policies, expenditures and reorganization implementation between legislative sessions and its oversight function includes, but is not limited to, evaluation of program costs and benefits, managerial effectiveness, internal control, and compliance, according to McInnis’ office.
“It is an honor to be named to the Joint Legislative Commission on Governmental Operations by Sen. (Phil) Berger,” McInnis, R-Richmond, said in a statement. “I look forward to being able to further ensure that the various divisions of our state government are functioning properly and effectively.”
This is the second appointment for McInnis within the past month.
In October, McInnis was appointed to the Senate Appropriations Base Budget Committee, which is responsible for approving all of the appropriations in the state budget.
McInnis serves as co-chairman of both the Senate Transportation Committee and Appropriations on Department of Transportation Committee along with Sen. Jim Davis, R-Franklin.
He is also a member of the following committees: Agriculture/Environment/Natural Resources; Commerce and Insurance; Education/Higher Education; Select Committee on Prison Safety; and State and Local Government.
McInnis is also co-chair of the non-standing Joint Legislative Committee on Local Government and appointed to the Joint Legislative Transportation Oversight Committee, Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on the N.C. State Lottery and the Joint Selective Committee on Storm-Related River Debris/Damage in North Carolina.
On Nov. 7, McInnis announced his bid for re-election to represent District 25, which includes Richmond, Anson, Moore and Scotland counties.
McInnis won the seat in 2014 and has defended it against Democratic challengers in the past two elections.
