Richmond County reports 10 recoveries, 5 new cases of COVID-19

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County has seen 10 more recoveries from COVID-19 since Monday, and five new confirmed cases.

The Richmond County Health Department reported on Wednesday that the total number of coronavirus recoveries is now up to 124.

However, it also reported five new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the two-month total to 189. The first case was reported on April 7.

On Tuesday, when no new cases were reported, the Health Department noted that 1,732 tests had been performed since testing began — 318 since June 2 — and 1,520 of those had returned negative.

There are currently 61 active cases, with four hospitalized and 57 in home isolation.

Of the 553,650 North Carolinans tested, 38,171 have been positive for COVID-19, according to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.

The state reports that 1,053 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus, including four in Richmond County. There are 780 currently hospitalized.

The daily number of statewide cases had seen a dip in the early part of the week, dropping to 676 on Tuesday before spiking back to 1,011 on Wednesday — the seventh-highest one-day total in the past three weeks, with new cases peaking with 1,370 on June 6.

  • Rockingham – 120 (81 recovered)
  • Hamlet – 54 (37 recovered)
  • Ellerbe – 11 (5 recovered)
  • Hoffman – 3 (1 recovered)
  • Mount Gilead – 1

The number of cases per age group are as follows:

  • 31-40 – 25
  • 41-50 – 36
  • 50-64 – 50
  • 65-older – 26

The Health Department previously reported 37 patients in the 41-50 age group.

The total numbers (including recoveries) for surrounding counties are as follows:

  • Mecklenburg – 5,861
  • Union – 616
  • Anson – 78
  • Stanly – 124
  • Montgomery – 170
  • Moore – 288 
  • Hoke – 288
  • Scotland – 99
  • Robeson – 900

All numbers except Moore County are from DHHS. The Moore County total is from the local health department. The state shows 22 fewer cases than the health department is reporting.

As of June 8, DHHS estimates that 23,653 patients in the Tar Heel State have recovered.

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control last updated its numbers on June 2, reporting 265 cases in Chesterfield County and 215 in Marlboro County.
