SANFORD — Two of Richmond Senior High School’s golfers matched career-low rounds, and two others shot their best round of the season, in the team’s third Sandhills Athletic Conference match on Monday.

Playing nine holes at the Sanford Golf Course, a new venue to the SAC golf schedule this season, the Lady Raiders placed fifth overall.

Using its top three scorers, Richmond finished with a team score of 179, which was eight strokes better than its previous best score from its first match.

Seniors Jamie Sears and Abigail Tatum each matched their best respective rounds, seeing Sears lead the way with a 55. It was the second straight match she registered her career-low nine-hole score.

Tatum bounced back on Monday, taking seven strokes off her performance from last week, while also matching her previous best score. She shot a 58, second on Richmond’s score card.

Freshman Ella Munn and senior Makayla Webb also improved from last week to record their lowest rounds of the fall. Munn shot a 66, four strokes better, and Webb knocked off two strokes to finish with a 69.

Making her high school golfing debut was senior Morgan Stutts, who shot a 70.

“Another great day for our group,” head coach Keith Parsons said. “Jamie and Abigail continue to be our leaders, on and off the course, and we got a great contribution from Makayla in this match.

“Ella is doing very well, too, and keeps getting better. Also, (Monday) was Morgan’s first match of the season, and she hit some great shots. Can’t wait to see what the rest of the season holds.”

Pinecrest High School, led by Camilah Porras (34), took first with a team score of 110. The rest of the standings following the round were Union Pines (132), Lee County (151) and Scotland (158).

Through three matches this fall, the Lady Raiders sit in fifth place in the SAC standings with four points. Richmond trails both Lee County and Scotland by three points.

The Lady Raiders will return to action on Monday, Sept. 27, with an 18-hole match in Hoke County. It will be the first full round of the season, starting at 2 p.m.
